Marwan Alzaylaie

Marwan Alzaylaie studied at the University of Sharjah (UOS) in the United Arab Emirates. He graduated with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering in 2001. In 2005, Marwan joined the post graduate program of UOS and obtained his Master of Science in Civil Engineering in 2008. His Master research project was titled “Modification of the Swelling and Phosphorus Retention Characteristics of Bentonite Clay Using Alum”. In 2010, Marwan joined the PhD program at the Technische Universität Darmstadt in Germany (TU Darmstadt) and expected to graduate in December 2017, the title of his PhD thesis is “The subsoil deformation behavior in Dubai, UAE”. His research interests include a variety of topics in Geotechnical and ٍStructural engineering such as soil improvement, clay liners, piles settlements, land reclamation, liquefaction, foundation settlements, slope stability and shoring design.

Marwan has been working in the civil engineering arena since 2002. He worked for Sharjah Municipality during the period from 2002 to 2006 as a civil engineer, where his main duties included monitoring, controlling and inspecting the construction projects at different phases for both sub and superstructures. Since 2006, he has been working with Dubai Creative Clusters Authority (DCCA), (known as TECOM Zoning Authority) as Manager- Geotechnical Design. His responsibilities include the review of geotechnical projects design such as soil reports, shoring design, piling design and soil improvement design, also responsible for inspecting and monitoring the geotechnical construction works at site within all areas under DCCA Jurisdictions. Since 2015 he started teaching as Part-time visiting lecturer at Heriot-Watt University in Dubai, his responsibilities to deliver lectures, tutorials and practical classes for Geotechnical Engineering Courses and also to supervise the post and under graduate students researches.

Marwan has been published many conference papers and he has attended many of international seminars, conferences and training programs apart from serving as technical committee member for International conferences in the Middle East and Europe. Also he is steering committee member and former general secretary of Deep Foundation Institute Middle East (DFI Middle East).
