Ilias Michalis

Technical Director MEA, Geotechnics and Tunnelling

Michalis current position (since July 2017) is Technical Director MEA of PARSONS International, leading the Geotechnical and Tunneling Engineering group, with very active participation on to ROUTE 2020 (Dubai Metro Red Line extension project) of RTA and the DSST Project of Dubai Municipality.

Between November 2015 until June 2017, Michalis was Associate Technical Director (Tunneling and Geotechnica) of Arcadis branch for the U.A.E and Oman, working successfully in a number of soil – structure designs.

For the period between January 2012 until October 2015, Michalis had established a very successful co-operation with Deutsche Bahn International, by having a very active and continuous participation in the Doha Metro Project for the preparation of the Technical Specifications, the evaluation of the tender offers for the Red Line North Contract and leading the Civil Works department of Qatar Rail.

He has more than 20 years of experience, working as tunnelling and geotechnical expert in major infrastructure projects, including: (a) Athens and Thessaloniki Metros in Greece, (b) the 700km Egnatia Motorway in North Greece and (c) three major concession motorways in Greece of a total length 700km approximately.

He is the author of more than 25 scientific publications and has delivered until now 10 invited lectures to International and Regional Conferences on Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering and Tunnelling.

Michalis holds authored his PhD in weak rock tunneling in National Technical University of Athens and holds the degree of Master of Science of Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology from the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine of the United Kingdom.
